Websites often employ various techniques (called search engine optimization, usually shortened to SEO) to increase the number of backlinks pointing to their website. Some methods are free for use by everyone whereas some methods like linkbaiting requires quite a bit of planning and marketing to work.

Nice point i think best and effective method for collecting quality back links is Article Submission because this process give you quality back links as well some traffic if you use frees & Quality content you got more from Article submission & syndication!!!

Yes article backlinks are great. But don't forget about your blogs. You can fill them with backlinks as well. I have never but have you ever linked from a friends website?

Most of the effective way to get quality backlink is to do directroy submission as per my experience.

I can't say I've had much success with directory submissions of late. They use to be alright, but google doesn't seem to index them like the use to. 
I'm all for the one-way linking tacktic. Unquie Article submissions also have become a success for myself.

I agree with you. Article submission is very important for gaining good amount of backlinks to your site and traffic too. You should submit high PR article and the content should be used very unique that can attract more visitors to your site too.

It takes a lot more time, but normally, if you do it right, you can get your link posted and it will something relevant to the topic being talked about.
