Duration for ranking

I think generally for getting improvement in SERPs our keywords take few months or years too; 3 month, 6 or even 12 month. Is it possible to get the keyword on first page in just few days like 3, 4 , 5, 6 ?? I know this is very different and odd question but i've heard it somewhere.
