Need help with a rewrite  Reply with quote

I am trying to re-write my lyrics site..
I've been reading everywhere and just can't seem to understand how to make this work with dynamic pages correctly..
I've used mod-rewrite for simple redirects and the like, but never on a scale like this.
I have a site that uses basically four different kind of links, like below:
index.php?search=artistname&id=3310
index.php?search=songid&id=91315
index.php?search=artistletter&letter=A
index.php?search=songletter&letter=A

I am trying to get them to display as either /3310 or /A on my site. Can anyone point me in the right direction on how to use mod-rewrite with a site like this?

Just for reference, since I've been trying..I've been using this code:
RewriteRule ^lyrics/(.+).php index.php?search=songid&id=$1 [R=301]

And it keeps trying to display:
/home/boldlyri/public_html/index.php?search=songid&id=91315

I just need it to display to /index.php?search=songid&id=91315. Anyone know why it includes the extra /home/boldlyri/public_html/ when it's trying to pull up the URL?

After reading lots and a little help..I did figure it out. For reference, if anyone else is having trouble with mod-rewrite PM me and I'll do what I can.

iblod, you can also drop the redirect part from your rewrite because you're losing the url friendlyness of what's shown in the users address bar
