In response to popular demand...

Important Update for our Top Posters feature!

In order to keep things more fair, and reward those who are putting more into their posts, I've modified the code to only increase member's post count, if the post contains 100 or more characters.

This is another custom hack, as far as I know, because I didn't want some goofy feature that would block short replies. There certainly isn't anything wrong with them, as they are sometimes appropriate, but for the purposes of the link reward, it does mean that a member will need to post more that "Hey, that's cool!" to get the post-count credit.

Also note, that text quoted from a previous post won't count, so don't think that quoting will get around the new system. ;)

Hey, I bet my post count went up by 1 for this post! Laughing

Cheers, everyone. Thanks for participating.

Andrew,

well done! SEO1 is a friendly community. On the one hand its less exclusive than some of the established SEO forums and on the other it seems to avoid of the abusive type slang on some of the more leading edge boards.

I endorse your approach and I am sure it will help you to maintain standards.

I'm very lazy and don't like the 100 character rule. I like my posting to be short and sweet and not real wordy like when I'm trying to get up to one hundred characters in an internet seo web site forum like the wonderful one here at seo1.net I just can't stand it when people babble and babble and go on and on to no end.

Hmm, that was 322 characters, so you went a bit overboard given your lazyness. This is 102 characters.

I have only just joined this forum and I am going for it, a site wide link from this forum to my site would be very nice indeed. I think that this forum is class, all these little rewards for posting comments, free text links and none of that No follow business that I see far to much of these days.

Hey Andrew, not sure if this is possible, but are you sharing ur secret code. I've got a phpBB that I'd be interested in implmenting this into. (main thing is the quote feature exclusion).

code:

             if ( $mode != 'editpost' )
             {
                     $user_id = ( $mode == 'reply' || $mode == 'newtopic' ) ? $userdata['user_id'] : $post_data['poster_id'];
                     $tmp1 = $HTTP_POST_VARS['message'];
                     $tmp1 = trim($tmp1);
                     $tmp1 = preg_replace('/\[quote(=[^\]]*?)?\]((.*)|(?R))\[\/quote\]/is', '', $tmp1);

                     if (strlen($tmp1) < 100)
                        update_post_stats($mode, $post_data, $forum_id, $topic_id, $post_id, $user_id, 1);
                     else
                        update_post_stats($mode, $post_data, $forum_id, $topic_id, $post_id, $user_id, 0);
             }

That's from posting.php, and it doesn't include everything, you need to modify update_post_stats to respond to the new parameter, but that's enough to figure it out hopefully...

I was using a lot of chats and i spend hours and gave them 1000s posts! All i got... Once i become top member of the month on seochat! That's it! When i asked them to give me backlink from their website, they told me no! (After thousands posts and unique contest i gave them). Your forum is awesome and it really benefits your members!

Thank You!

A little offtopic, but can you get resonable amounts of money from adsense sharing forums without writing posts all day long? Usually when people read a forum, they read the forum, not click ads.

As a member, NO. As a forum owner; if your forum is get lots of traffic and post then YES. As a member back link is much better then adsense sharing forum. So far I have made less then $1 for adsense sharing forums. .
