Copyscape: Plagiarism Detection  Reply with quote

Copyscape is a service that can scan the Net, or rather Google's cache of it, and locate pages that have copied portions of your content. It uses the Google API so it should be safe to use without annoying Google. Here's what they say about themselves...

quote:

Copyscape is dedicated to defending your rights online, helping you fight against online plagiarism and content theft. Copyscape finds sites that have copied your content without permission, as well as those that have quoted you.

The Copyscape website provides two services, Copyscape which scans the web for instances of content on a given page, and Copysentry which is an automated service that is always watching for content taken from your pages.

They also provide some ideas about preventing plagiarism as well as a guide detailing the steps to follow to get your content removed from websites when the copying has already occurred.

copyscape rocks. I found someone re-publishing our content without our consent thanks to copyscape. As soon as the sales staff starts selling ad space we'll be subscribing to copysentry

Is there any alternative to copyscape? Because, I know there are lot of websites that have started blocking the IP address of copyscape.

So, any alternative?

They must be using Google results to drive their system, so you can probably get basically the same capabilities by doing general searches for snippets of your webpage text.

i am new to this concept but i dont see the problem in copying snippets of text from other sites. its relative i know others have typed it but most of the stuff is common knowledge its in the public domain so wheres the problem?

if you are prepared to publish somthing knowing it can be copied then surely you must agree to it?

if you want to keep control then dont put it on the web. i thought right or wrong the web has no copyright control.
can of worms opened :)

I have been always detecting my content as copied somewhere else, but due to copyscape it has been so far easy to find those copies, who have copied my content. Am finding best way to make my content unique, so search engine give me credentials for my work

One must always check their content before publishing their stuff at blogs or sites, so they can make sure they are not considering them as Spammers or content snatcher. Always use copyscape for your additional points

Here I have a question regarding copy scape...

As all of we know that copyscape is using Google API . So copyscape is not able to check those content which is not indexed by the google.

For example A person can copy your all web content and put it on his/her website if he/she not allow google to index his/her site.

I know in this way he lost all the seo cerdit ..but he can use the content in other manner too ...

what say guys is it possible

It's possible but the traffic loss is a hard gamble.

Besides a) if you have a copyright document you can prove its yours and b) you could question him as to why he disallows Google to crawl his site. There's only one answer to the last.

Copyscape is an online plagiarism detection service that checks whether similar text content appears elsewhere on the web. It was launched in 2004 by Indigo Stream Technologies, Ltd.

Given the URL or text of the original content, Copyscape returns a list of web pages that contain similar text to all or parts of this content. It also shows the matching text highlighted on the found web page. Copyscape banners can be placed on a web page to warn potential plagiarists not to steal content.
