Blog vs. Articles  Reply with quote

I started writing some articles for my site, and posted some of them to article submission services. However, I haven't really seen any value from this (no traffic from the submission sites or traffic from sites that are using my articles, if any).

Granted, it may be that my articles just stink, but I then thought that it might be more beneficial to post my articles to a blog. I got this idea when I read that Google was launching its own blog search service, I realized that I should probably have one of those and I could post the articles that I've written and that I plan to write.

What do you guys think/know about this? I see alot of sites that have articles and a blog, but their blog is just made up of quick posts that I can't imagine anyone would subscribe to. I've posted some ads on my blog so I'm fine with people just going there rather than actually visiting my site (although I do link back to my site of course)!

However, I realize that now my site will be static as I don't plan on updating it anytime soon.

What is everyone else doing with this, and what is the logic behind having both a blog and articles?

Thanks,
Chris

Funny you mention this, I wrote an article on this exact topic:

Thanks, that was a good article.

I think I'm going to continue posting my articles to my blog because it gives me an easy way to focus on the content of the articles rather than the format of the web page. Plus, I like how blogger automatically updates your rss file and pings for you.

I agree that historically blogs have been used for informal discussions, but I'm going to break the mold!

Thanks again for the info/advice, even if I don't follow it!

Blogs work  Reply with quote

Say,

posting articles to blogs definitely work. Mine, despite the little time and money I spend on them, achieve high rankings in numerous searches.

Do you also submit your articles to article submission sites, or do you just put them up on your blog?

I have a seperate section just for the articles, and I keep the blog entries entirely seperate from the blog - but you could place your article in the blog if you wanted to -

I use a Wordpress blog because I prefer to host the blog on my own server, and everytime I write an article, I post it on my blog, then submit it to the directories.

You could also post it to your blog then change (rewrite) about 30% of the article, then submit to the article directories, and that will prevent SE's from labeling your site as a mirror site.

As long as you post to your site first, and make sure Google indexes your site before posting to the rest of the Internet, your site will be condered the holder of the original content - all the other sites will have the duplicate content.

Articles gives whole information about the topic, while in blog information is given in short. Both are helpful in SEO.

But from the point of view of traffic, blog is very helpful in generating high traffic.

Blogs are complementary  Reply with quote

I see blogs as highly complementary to a main website. You can be short, sharp but relevant. And they are time efficient. Just like forums.

I've published some articles but not seen the impact on the SERPs yet. Maybe it's too soon.

I have been doing this for a little while, and may be able to prove this true or false shortly, can you do that now ?

I personally prefer using blogs for writing articles or any postings, the reason is that when you submit your article, if nicely written and informative, it will be downloaded by several webmasters. It's nice for now but after a couple of weeks when you visit those sites you can see that several of those webmasters may have deleted or moved your article.

Also don't forget that by posting on a blog, it already is connected to the blogger with PR 10 and all search engines love blogs so much for their content updated regularly.

But with blogs, you are sure that the page your article or posting will be there for a longer time, especially if you know the owner of that blog.

It doesn't hurt, but you need to submit bloggings to get found...

I like blogs. They seem to get indexed very quickly and comments almost act as a miniature forum. The easy and frequent updating make them very attractive to viewers, too, if the content is high (and some of the best "sites" I follow on the web are blogs). But hey, especially, quick index!
