Staying at the top of MSN  Reply with quote

I know we've all experienced this:

Create a web page and it jumps to the top of MSN like a bat out of hell. Then, a few weeks later, it falls like a rock and is never seen again in the MSN listings.

How do you keep your listing at the top of MSN?

Links and keep on adding content to the page - MSN spiders it's entire index once a week.

Wow! I never knew that!

That would seem almost impossible, but I guess any problem can be solved if you throw enough $$$ at it.

Sayyess,
I agree with SEO4G.

MSN is the most prolific of the engines. It updates more frequently than the other two major engines. It seems to treat blogs rather well.

I am not of the opinion that the site should be optimised for a specific engine. If a site has been SEOed properly, most of the time it does well across all the engines.

proper optimization of a site will get you positive results on all the search engines, but all things considered, there are certain factors that weigh more in each search engine than others.

MSN makes pretty big updates frequently. For example, if the site is off-line for a week, MSN takes off your site from SERP. Something like this often looks like that MSN drops your rankings so drastically. It's often a reflection of how this SE is designed.

On the flip side of this, I have a site where I haven't done anything to for over 6 months, and it's still #3 on MSN for it's main phrase - so maybe it depends on how competitive the targeted industry is?

MSN takes backlinks into consideration, so it is important to get more backlinks.

For that you have to optimise your site properly. Update content regularely, add fresh & unique content in your site, use proper keywords, prepare blog & submit articles. All these points will help you in getting traffic to your site. Which helps in getting top position in MSN.

MSN has done some crazy things to me in the past -- I approach it with trepidation. I'm ... amazed that it spiders that quickly. That explains a lot of the highs and drops.
