Hi all,

I made a nice directory, with no links or any pr yet, didnt submit it to any websites as well...

anyone has some advice to make a good start? should i already make a few 100-200 categories? .. or even add a few entries by hand first?

Any help is welcome

vult-r -

First off, welcome to the forums. Browse around and you'll find lots of great tips to get you rolling.

Now, to answer your question, the key is, is your directory free or fee based?

If it's free, you need to get listed at http://info.vilesilencer.com/ - you should get a bout 100 uniques a day from that site (that's the average my free directories receive)

If it's a fee based directory, you'll have to apporach it like a regular site - you'll have to sell the value in order for people to list their site.

by the way, feel free to list your directory's url, our members will check it out.

Well, good luck on your directory.
I would suggest adding a few entries by hand at first, just so you don't have a bunch of empty categories. Then, as these fill up you can remove the one you've added if you wish.
Also, don't go overboard on the categories at first. Have all of the basics covered and go from there. You can always have a "suggest a category" link so people can help you pick categories you'll use.

With most directory templates, you should be able to turn on/off the fee structure.

In terms of categories, I would go for as many categories as possible. It should save you time in the long term as people don't tend to suggest categories as freely as the entries. They tend to go for an existing category.

If you need any entries, we're ready to help :)

Good luck with the directory...

Directories are the same as any other site, they should start with PR0 assuming you haven't done much link building already and the site is new.

vult-r, I'd add at least 500 categories first if it's a general directory (can be less for a niche) and then start promoting it.
There are some sites that list directories and it's worth it getting in there. Besides the ones that were already told, directorycritic and seocompany.ca are some others. But once you get on one list, the others will pick you up too.

And it's not worth it to add links by hand. Make a post on DigitalPoint about your forum and you'll get 50-100 links very fast.

Start to submit your diretory in lists of directories.
They have from hundered to thousands directories listed. If you use sponsored submission, they will give you top positions and a lot of unique visitors.
Directories of Directories
www.directorycritic.com
www.manhattanservice.com
www.best-web-directories.com
www.blogupper.com

There is hundereds of them........ use Google typing "Directory list", "Directories submission", "free directories list" etc...

(By the way, bunch people don't know yet what PageRank mean, thousands small business owners browse web to add information about their small cafe, bar, newspaper, product. they submit in directories without knowing about PageRank, Alexa traffic, how to get google positions etc... Also, do you know how many webmasters beginners.......... a lot! They will be clicking only first results to submit and even pay for submission)
After, try to create more backlinks. Good pagerank for homepage, all pr0-pr2 for your other pages. You can try to submit your cook category link with anchor "top cooking resources". It works. Backlinks for iternal pages will help you to index all pages on search enginnes and spread pagerank around your site. It is very important.
Steal some good links from competitors... use backlink checkers to see who link other directories and after submit yours.

Backlink checkers:

www.domain-pop.com
www.iwebtool.com

Good luck

What Is Panko  Reply with quote

All the food chunks that are to be dipped in tempura should be pat dried with a paper towel and placed in the refrigerator. Take them out when the tempura batter is ready and you can now deep fry those vegetables and meats.
