Search Engine Cloaker  Reply with quote

Do search engine cloakers really generate lots of hits to your web site?

Are they okay to use with search engines such a google?

Erik26,

I'd stay well away from any cloaking device or technology. Short term gain may lead to long term pain.

Cloaking is considered black hat seo, and using it will get you banned by Google, so don't use it, or you will surely get banned by Google

SE cloakers just show a different page to the SE (if I'm not mistaking). So generated hits can only come from SE results on the queries you optimize with the cloaked page.
Well..you probably already got the answer if you read any of the 10s of threads you posted on different forums with the exact same question

paul.martin -

I have used SEC in the past and it *does* work very well.

Here's the rub:

Do you want to have that monkey on your back knowing at some point in time your site will get dropped in Google, and you'll have to either explain that to your client, or if it's your own personal site, build up links and trust to another site?

When I used it, the client wanted to do so. I told them of all the risks involved and I made them sign a waiver releasing me of any damage the cloaking might cause to their site, namely, getting dropped from Google.

The results?
The cloaked pages got ranked in about 2 weeks in Google, but anyone with half a brain could tell it was spammy looking. In the meantime I was also building up the organic side of things and in 4 months the naturally organic rankings outranked the cloaked ones. At that point, the cloaking was turned off.

So while I know it sounds tempting and this client got away with it, I wasn't able to rest easy at night knowing that the other shoe could drop in an instant.

So, that's been my experience with cloaking, hope it helps.

I am totally agree with dburdon. Cloaking is only for short term benefit and it can harm a long term profit also so avoid any black hat seo techniques..

Thanks

LOL

I all boils down to ETHICS and whether or not you are one to substitute good work and due diligence with disreputable practices for ambiguous rewards.

White Hat vs. Black Hat ..... they both use the same methods, but only to different degrees. It is the intent and the transparancy of the motivation that makes the fence between them real.

Cloaking is a black hat search engine optimization (SEO) technique . The purpose of cloaking is to deceive search engines so they display the page when it would not otherwise be displayed. So I don't feel I need it
