Best way to optimize a site for multiple keywords  Reply with quote

Hi everybody,
Forgive me if some of this does not make sense (I am new to seo). I created a website a few months ago to sell an ebook on loan modifcations. The site is basically 3 pages (Pitch page, about, contact). Within 45 days I was getting first page results for a few good keyword (as a result of article writing). I decided to 'clone' my pitch page within my site and optimize those pages for other keywords(this is from my clear lack of experience). The result was terrible, My ranking collapsed,,and I have recently learned why,,, (duplicate content is very bad)

Anyway is my question. I want to optimize my website for other keywords and I am not sure how to go about doing it the right way, without hurting the ranks of certain keywords already performing well with my main page. It seems everytime I try to optimize my home page for additional keywords, something suffers. I am almost afraid to touch anything.

Is the best way to go about it by creating additional pages within my site (new content , not duplication), and optimize each page for one or two keywords? Or just do it via a blog, whereas each entry could be optimized for a different keyword.

Which is the best way to 'grab' other keywords, once you have an optimized page that you don't want to put at risk for dillutio.

Sorry for the long question. I hope this makes sense

titles  Reply with quote

your question makes a lot of sense. First off you most likely had good rankings in google because they try to give a jump start to new sites as far as rankings. while trying to gain new keywords you will have to make some changes that will cause penalties and make you lose minor ranking for about two weeks or so. This would be in the title. when you would like to make a title change for your new keywords you will be penalize and lose a little ranking but dont worry it will be back soon. The title change is very necessary because it is the strongest element on your page. Increasing content is also a great idea. It sounds like you are on the right track

i wanted to add this as a seperate post because it is a totally different strategy then the other. You can also place your new keywords at the bottom of your site.As to therefore make them site wide links. also you should incorporate you new keywords into all the titles of your site to create relevance

I think that most of us are facing the same problem, that we want to target a lot of keywords.

Ideal solution for this website is you need to add new content rich pages so that you will be able to provide the maximum exposure to additional keywords.

If you are not able to do so then i would like to advice you that change your title according to the demand...but make sure you must have strong backlink support for each individual keywords..

Hope you will find your answer

i am totally agree with arvind , for multiple keyword target in single page, it is very tuff to maintain all keyword in one title which shouldn't exceed 60 characters , what do you say ??

sure basically ..google only allowed 58 to 60 character long title ..or in other words i would like to say that it will recognize only first 58 character..

so i would always prefer at most three main keyword for each page..

in this way you can maintain the right keyword density too for each keyword..with maintaining genuine approach...

We should add new keywords in the bottom of website and linking with keyword rich content page. If it is possible to add keywords in title then its good otherwise, we shouldn't make any changes in on page factors. we can do off page activities to increase the ranking of newly added keywords.

One of the biggest mistakes many people make is using their web homepages for a lot of terms and then pointing just all of the incoming links at them. Using the internal pages and then directing links towards them and adding some good articles from time to time would work better.
