Twitter can not be helpful in the seo ....
It is helpful in the brand design or you say ..because it is providing a tiny url for your original link so it the original points it is not providing any sense in the seo..
but as twitter post are coming very easily in the search result..so you can get a traffic from the search engine by your tweets. and form your twitter profile too ..

Exactly twitter is not more help full for SEO but it's give you some traffic if you have more follower and update some informative post there you got traffic easily via twitter!!!

sorry but i am differ from your thought. i think traffic genrate on our site is also a part of seo. and twitter provide traffic so we can't say that twitter is not helpful for seo

I'm not much of a twitter fan myself simply because of it's lack of seo value. However, I will say that it does bring in some traffic from time to time. If you make a few tweets here and there then you can still get something out of it.
